Soil particle size fraction and potentially toxic elements bioaccessibility: A review

چکیده
In the last decade, extensive studies have been conducted to quantify influence of different factors on potentially toxic elements (PTE) bioaccessibility in soil; one most important is soil size fraction. However, there no agreement about fraction and methods investigate bioaccessibility, as very few review articles are available PTE none addressed particle bioaccessibility. This study provides a relations between fractions. The research indicates that distribution across fractions varies widely soil, but general trend higher finer was found. may exhibit relationships and, some cases, their seems be more related source chemico-physical form soil. Often, pollution health risk assessed based total concentration rather than bioaccessible fraction, from it appears consensus must pursued determine fine achieve accurate human assessment.

Particle size effects on bioaccessible amounts of ingestible soil-borne toxic elements.
The unified BARGE method was used to examine the effects of soil particle size on the bioaccessible amounts of potentially toxic elements in multi-contaminated soils from a closed landfill site. The results show that bioaccessible As, Al, Cd, Cr, Cu, Mn, Ni, Pb and Zn increased with decreasing soil particle size and the <0.002 mm soil fraction contained much greater amounts of the bioaccessible...
متن کاملLead and Arsenic Bioaccessibility and Speciation as a Function of Soil Particle Size.
Bioavailability research of soil metals has advanced considerably from default values to validated in vitro bioaccessibility (IVBA) assays for site-specific risk assessment. Previously, USEPA determined that the soil-size fraction representative of dermal adherence and consequent soil ingestion was <250 μm. This size fraction was widely used in testing efforts for both in vivo and in vitro expe...
متن کاملEvaluation of stream sediment contamination by potentially toxic elements around mining and farming areas (SE Nigeria)
In this work, the concentrations of the potentially toxic elements in stream sediments in SE Nigeria were assessed for pollution monitoring in mining, quarrying, and farming areas. The levels of iron, molybdenum, vanadium, copper, lead, zinc, nickel, cobalt, manganese, chromium, barium, and beryllium were determined. The concentrations of the elements were in the order of Fe > Ba > Mn > Cr > Zn...
متن کاملBiosorption: An Interplay between Marine Algae and Potentially Toxic Elements—A Review
In recent decades, environmental pollution has emerged as a core issue, around the globe, rendering it of fundamental concern to eco-toxicologists, environmental biologists, eco-chemists, pathologists, and researchers from other fields. The dissolution of polluting agents is a leading cause of environmental pollution of all key spheres including the hydrosphere, lithosphere, and biosphere, amon...
متن کاملComparison of methods used to calculate typical threshold values for potentially toxic elements in soil.
The environmental quality of land can be assessed by calculating relevant threshold values, which differentiate between concentrations of elements resulting from geogenic and diffuse anthropogenic sources and concentrations generated by point sources of elements. A simple process allowing the calculation of these typical threshold values (TTVs) was applied across a region of highly complex geol...
